she waits
in between sheets
head sans halo
resting on my pillow
telling eyes
soft from sleep
the worst of her
buried
along with thoughts
of departure
for now
she is mine to keep
lost in her layers
she wails
from her center
silent and menacing
as shoals
hidden beneath
and between
she’s complicated
laying in layers
as deep as the sea
though not where
she wants to be
while her heart
trying desperately
to outfox fear
and soak in love
exquisitely
her telling eyes
moist with tears
gaze past me
into her sea
laying in layers
she complicates me
